"Puzzle for charity?" you ask. "Really?"
Yes!
Here's how it works: an insanely difficult encrypted message is shown on the page. Every day that the puzzle goes unsolved, 25 cents is added to a pool for a charity selected by RustyRedRock.com. 25 cents is also placed in a prize pool for the person who eventually solves the puzzle. Every once in a while, if nobody has solved it yet, a new hint is given. Solve the puzzle, and you get whatever's in the prize pool -- as well as the puzzle itself, if it's a physical object -- and the charity gets the rest. The funding for this contest comes from ad revenue and donations to the site.
Did I mention that the puzzle is insanely difficult? Past contests have gone on an average of two months before someone managed to solve them. As of this writing, the current contest ("Corkboard") has been going on for four months. I thought I was getting somewhere with it, but only got gibberish for my efforts. Can you do better?
