Kahn's Cons Contest
Chapter 6
Kahn's Cons Contest Index
The skies are cloudy tonight, and the streetlights are dim, but you can still see the body all too clearly. Cops are all around, taking pictures, holding back the few gawkers. You spy Detective Hanlon, trying to look like he has it all under control. Clearly, he doesn't.
"Poor guy," says O'Malley.
"Who? Hanlon?"
"Give me a break. I'm talking about Micky."
Micky the Mouse. A low-level member of Kahn's Cons, he was also a police informant. For the past month, he'd been trying to gain Kahn's confidence. Tonight was the night he was finally going to be trusted, finally going to learn the secret of the codes. Instead, he's just a corpse, another stain on the sidewalk.
O'Malley hands you a familiar-looking note. "Found this lying nearby. Of course."

O'Malley scowls at the ground. "Looks like Genghis wins again."
"What's Kahn's real name, anyway?" you ask.
Surprisingly, O'Malley laughs. "Coupla years ago, before he got big, he was known as Frankie the Fish, on account of his fish-ugly face."
"Frankie. Short for Franklin?"
O'Malley shrugs. "I guess so. What difference does it make?"
You don't want to admit you're just grasping at straws. "If I'm going to crack this code, I'm going to need to get inside Kahn's head. And to do that, I'm going to need to know as much about him as I can."
"Fine," says O'Malley. "I'll see what I can find. Meantime, it'd sure help me out if you can figure out even a piece of this puzzle. Micky may have been a bum and a crook, but he was also a decent guy."
Can you decipher the note?
